hotel - pension / boarding
house for 170 years |
| Around 1834 the old trading route was moved to the
other side of the river Ache. That is why the JAGERWIRT, who since
then looked after the travelling dealer at the old trading route to
build a new hotel - pension / boarding house. Since this time the
boarding house is called Auwirt (it used to be spelled Auwirth). The
word "Au" from Auwirth and Aurach derivates from Aue, a wet bushy
meadow near the river. |
 |
The trading route probably originates
in a Roman street. In more earlier times copper was mined near Aurach
and transported to Kufstein, where a 3000-year old copper melting
plant can be visited today. In the Middle Ages silver was mined near
Aurach for some decades and people traded lively from Venice in the
South to Augsburg in the North. In the 19th century, at times of the
hotel - pension / boarding house Gasthof Auwirt, iron ore was mined in
Aurach. You can see the remains of the tunnels even today.

around 1870, the "Saumpferd" was substituted by carts by and by.
